About the role

North Point Productions is looking for an experienced Audio Engineer / Production Sound professional to join the crew for an upcoming production filming in and around Stirling.

You will be responsible for capturing consistently high-quality dialogue, ambience and other location sound throughout the shoot, working closely with the Director, Camera Department and wider production team.

We are looking for someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify and resolve sound issues quickly in a busy filming environment.

Key Responsibilities
Record high-quality dialogue and location sound throughout filming
Set up, operate and monitor professional field recording equipment
Select and position microphones appropriate to each scene
Rig and monitor radio microphones where required
Monitor sound continuously during takes and identify unwanted noise or technical problems
Maintain accurate recording levels and clean audio signals
Work closely with the Director and Camera Department when planning shots and microphone placement
Record room tone, wild tracks and additional location sound as required
Maintain clear and organised sound files throughout the production
Keep accurate sound reports and production notes
Manage frequencies and wireless audio equipment where applicable
Carry out equipment checks before each filming day
Troubleshoot technical problems quickly and effectively
Ensure sound equipment is transported, handled and stored safely
Communicate any audio concerns to the relevant members of the production team
About You

We are looking for someone who:

Has professional experience recording sound for film, television, factual, commercial or similar productions
Has a strong understanding of production sound and location recording
Is confident using professional field recorders, radio microphones and boom microphones
Understands microphone placement, gain structure, frequency management and monitoring
Can recognise potential sound problems before and during filming
Is comfortable working in changing indoor and outdoor environments
Can work effectively alongside camera, lighting and production departments
Has excellent attention to detail
Remains calm and methodical under production pressure
Is reliable, punctual and professional
Works well as part of a collaborative crew
Desirable Experience

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

Sound Devices, Zoom F-Series or similar professional field recorders
Sennheiser, Lectrosonics, Wisycom or similar wireless systems
Boom operation
Radio microphone fitting and concealment
Multi-channel location recording
Timecode synchronisation
Wireless frequency coordination
Drama or scripted production
Documentary and factual filming
Commercial production
Multi-camera shoots
Exterior and challenging location environments
Equipment

Please state in your application whether you:

Own or have access to a professional location sound kit
Have your own radio microphone systems
Have boom microphones and supporting equipment
Have timecode equipment
Require equipment to be supplied by the production

Please also provide details of the principal equipment you normally work with.

Final equipment requirements will be agreed with the successful applicant before filming.

Location

Filming will take place in Stirling and the surrounding area.

Applicants should ideally be based within reasonable travelling distance of Stirling or be able to arrange travel to the filming locations.

Rate

This is a paid freelance position.

The rate will be agreed according to experience, responsibilities, equipment provision and the final production requirements.

Any applicable kit hire, travel or expenses arrangements will be agreed before engagement.
